For those looking for a fun way to study Celtic and Irish lore, this is the book for you! This book may have been designed for juveniles but it certainly does a good job at retelling the myths we know and love from our Celtic ancestors. Beautifully illustrated and outlined, this book touches upon the first inhabitants of Ireland, explains the rise of the Tuatha Dé Danann, and follows our favorite heroes through their most memorable feats.

The book is divided into chapters and then subdivided by their stories. Depending on your parenting style, I would recommend reading the book first and then deciding on which stories are appropriate for your wee ones. There are some stories in this book that have adult content as would be expected from the Celts. If you plan on reading the book for yourself, it's a great start to trying to understand the rich history of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and the surrounding areas. You will find interesting facts along with the myths and strong moral codes with an emphasis on the importance of hospitality and respect.

Mabon: The Welsh God

So just what is Mabon? Or rather who?

Mabon is the Great Son born to Modron, the Great Mother. It is said that Mabon perhaps was an actual leader whose story was turned into mythology. When he was an infant, he was stolen from his mother and rescued by King Arthur although some stories differ on this account. Mabon is considered to be the counterpart of Persephone and Modren is the counterpart of Demeter.

Titans

Tyrannical giants ancient times arose,
spawn of love, threats did pose.
Devoured children, salvation for one,
born of thunder, the Titan's son.

Struggle for divine power soon lost,
war of idols over creation fought.
Despair of mortals tremble in fear,
apocalyptic warnings of the end near.

Catastrophic nature and demonic fright,
raining fire in deep starless night.
Ravage Earth and glory of all,
bring down the Titan's barricading wall.

Raise the clouds and sound the winds,
darken the skies and hail descends.
Forest of fires, mountains fall,
crush the people, the good of all.

Brutal battle of blood begins,
pray to the Gods, worship their sins.
Anger desecrates Earth's design,
death for all, chose which side.

Kill the harvest and drown the moon,
enrage the waves, the Siren's tune.
Crack of thunder and flash of light,
Olympus ablaze, the flames white.

Cage thy fathers, keep them barred,
to Tartarus imprisoned and charred.
Reigning champions take the throne,
Bring back the sun, defeated by thy own.
